NL Wild Card Pitching Props and Odds

Though it's only the second game of the MLB postseason, we may not see a better pitching matchup in these playoffs than when Jake Arrieta and Gerrit Cole take to the mound Wednesday. Both the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates will need to get ready for a rough night at the plate.

Can Either Team Score Quick?

Jake Arrieta’s numbers have been widely spoken about, but he has been even more dominant in the opening frame. The Cy Young candidate has not allowed an earned run in the first inning since May 28 and has only allowed a combined six earned runs in the opening frame across his 33 starts this season.

Gerrit Cole has been a little slower out of the gates, especially recently. Since the start of September, Cole has given up a run in the first inning three times. Across Cole's 32 starts this season he has allowed a run to plate in the first on 11 occasions.

Arrieta or Cole to Fan Eight Batters?

Much has been made of Arrieta’s ERA and WHIP heading into the postseason, but the pitcher also racked up a stellar 236 strikeouts this season, which was good for sixth in the MLB. The Pirates also swung at a lot of pitches this season, with the seventh most K’s in baseball.

Cole was no slouch this season in fanning batters forcing 202 K’s this season, which is good for an average of 6.1 strikeouts per game. It could make for a big night for Cole, as the Cubs whiffed more than any other team in baseball by a massive margin.

Will there be a run scored in the 1st inning?
