NRFI Picks For Today: Yanks-Rays Features Intriguing Pitching Matchup

The NRFI picks train is back, but the upcoming MLB slate isn't forgiving enough to get with straight NRFI best bets. Instead, we're gunning for two YRFI picks, first in the Phils vs Mets game and the Rays against the Yankees, where starting pitching rules all.

Here are our YRFI picks for today:

YRFI Pick Today: Phillies vs Twins (-115)

Philadelphia vs Minnesota Odds - Game Time: 7:40 pm ET

Ranger Suarez (6-13 YRFI) and Bailey Ober (7-11 YRFI) are fine pitchers outside the confines of our Y/NRFI format, but, when they take the hill, there's a strong chance we see a run in the first inning.

The lefty Suarez, for example, is a little shaky in the first inning. His ERA balloons to 4.26 and he allows a .729 to opponents. That's not dreadful, but it's perfect for a YRFI bet, as Philly's .835 first-inning OPS ranks fourth in MLB.

Ober is far worse in the first. His 6.00 ERA is quite ugly, a product of nine extra-base hits allowed in 18 starts, during which opponents slash .279/.333/.559.

If Suarez doesn't falter, Ober certainly will, leaving us with two failsafes for our YRFI best bet.

YRFI Pick Today: Rays vs Yankees (-115)

Tampa Bay vs New York Odds - Game Time: 1:05 pm ET

Generally, the Yankees are considered a solid YRFI bet, as their 53-48 YRFI record ranks second in MLB behind only the Rockies. This time, though, Carlos Rodon (8-12 YRFI) makes our bet even sweeter.

Rodon has big-time strikeout stuff, but he's also prone to hard contact. The left-hander has been extremely vulnerable in the first inning, yielding an 8.55 ERA (19 ERs) and 26 hits in just 20 starts. Opposing clubs have smashed seven homers and own a 1.010 OPS. In summary, Rodon allows nearly one run per start and every opposing hitter turns into Shohei Ohtani when they face him. That's enough to wager your cash on a YRFI, but we have more to lock down this play.

Zack Littell (7-12 YRFI) goes for the Rays, and he's no first-inning angel either. The left-hander has allowed 10 runs in 19 innings (4.74 ERA), and opponents are slugging .532 with 22 hits.
