Phillies vs Mets Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Sportsbook Odds

The Mets opened as a huge home favorite at -213 on the moneyline with the Phillies getting +155 on the road. The total was set at seven runs with the OVER going 5-2 in the last seven meetings between the two clubs. New York is 6-1 in the last seven matchups against Philadelphia at Citi Field – a reason to like the hosts for your Phillies vs Mets prediction.

Starting Pitchers

Max Scherzer (8-2) will look to win his third straight game when he takes the mound for the Mets. He was stellar in his last start, holding the Atlanta Braves to four hits and no runs over seven innings on August 6. Scherzer owns a 1.98 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP through 95.2 innings of work this year.

Ranger Suarez (8-5) also picked up a victory in his last start though it wasn’t as painless as he gave up seven hits and three earned runs over 5.1 innings against the Washington Nationals on August 6. The southpaw has a 3.68 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP in 100.1 innings.

Marlins Snap Phillies’ Seven-Game Run

The Phillies had their seven-game win streak snapped on Thursday as they fell 3-0 to the Miami Marlins. The Phillies managed just three hits off Marlins starter Edward Cabrera in 5.2 innings and finished the game with just seven hits in total. Kyle Gibson surrendered six hits and two earned runs over six innings in the loss for Philadelphia.

It’s hard to believe that the Phillies are playing so well without star slugger Bryce Harper, but here we are. Since being swept by the Chicago Cubs in the first series back from the All-Star break, the Phillies have won four of five sets and tied the only other one. Pitching has been key during their recent stretch as Philadelphia is giving up just 2.5 runs per game over its last eight outings.

Offensive Explosion Helps Mets Win Sixth Straight

The Mets earned their sixth straight victory on Wednesday in a 10-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. New York went out to a 6-0 lead through three innings and never looked back, with Daniel Vogelbach’s three RBI leading the offense. Taijuan Walker scattered five hits and two earned runs in six innings to pick up the win for New York.

New York has been racking up the runs of late, scoring 6.67 runs per game over its six-game win streak. It seems like everyone on the Mets has been getting in on the offense this month as Francisco Lindor (11 RBI), Pete Alonso (11 RBI) and Vogelbach (10 RBI) each have 10-plus RBI in August, while four others have knocked in at least five runs apiece.

Phillies vs Mets Pick & Insights

Phillies: Keys To Victory

Pitching has been a strength for Philadelphia in the second half and that’s going to need to be the case on Friday as the Phillies try to slow down a red hot Mets offense. Suarez was somewhat shaky in his last outing but has put up two scoreless starts in his last four games. His recent patterns suggest he may be due for another one.

Mets: Keys To Victory

The Mets have so much offensive depth that it’s hard to imagine they’ll be stopped any time soon, especially with their top hitters hot at the same time. Add in the fact that Scherzer is on the mound and hasn’t given up more than two runs in a game since returning from injury in early July and the Mets should be on their way to another win.
