Pittsburgh scuffling in road games with Williams as the starter

The Pirates began their nine-game winning streak with a Trevor Williams (7-7, 4.36 ERA) victory on July 11 and look to build off that start for their 10th win in a row. That could be a difficult task as Pittsburgh hasn’t had much success when the California native gets the ball in road games, going just 1-5 SU over his last six starts. Williams will have to be tread lightly against this dangerous Indians lineup as they rank fifth in the majors with a .772 OPS vs RHP.

However, the Pirates are 3-0 SU when the righty takes on AL teams in 2018, two of those wins coming on the road, granted those victories were over the lowly Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers. Overall, the 26-year-old has been good against the NL with a 4-1 record with a 2.05 ERA through seven career interleague starts. Surprisingly, Williams actually has held batters to a lower batting average in road starts vs home starts (.233 vs .247) but walks have hurt him as he allowed 4.35 walks per nine innings on the road while just 2.34 BB/9 at home.

Kluber Brilliant in home starts this season

The reigning AL Cy Young Award Sportsbook, Corey Kluber (12-5, 2.76 ERA), has resumed his dominance at Progressive Field into 2018. The Alabama native has held batters to a .199 batting average while holding a 2.00 ERA through 11 starts at home this season. Although Cleveland is just 7-4 SU when Kluber gets the ball at home, two of those losses fall solely on the bullpen. The righty had two starts in which he didn’t allow a run but the club fell apart after he was removed from the game.

According to our Pitcher Run Support page, Kluber ranks in a tie for 13th in MLB among pitchers that have made at least 10 starts this season averaging 5.5 runs per game. Overall, the 32-year-old has been good in interleague play through his career, holding a 13-6 record with a 2.57 ERA through 22 outings. However, he has struggled this year, as he is just 1-2 with a 6.14 ERA and is making his first career start vs Pittsburgh.
