Glasnow to Make Debut Against Cardinals, Who Can't Win at Busch

The Pirates have called up Tyler Glasnow and will send him out to face Adam Wainwright in search of the four-game road sweep of the Cardinals. The Cards have been brutal at Busch Stadium this year and are in danger of becoming the worst home team in the MLB with only Oakland, Arizona, LAA and Atlanta posting worse records on their own turf.

SHARK BITES
  • The visiting team is 7-0 in its last 7 games in this matchup.
  • The total has gone OVER in 18 of the Pirates’ last 25 games during the afternoon.
  • The Pirates are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games.

Glasnow has been a beast in Triple-A this year, posting a 1.78 ERA in 17 starts with Indianapolis before being called up. He is now the second stud pitcher called up by the Pirates this year and there has been a precedent for success. Jameson Taillon (2-1, 3.86 ERA) has been one of the best rookie pitchers this year and Glasnow is thought to be an even better prospect than Jameson.

This is a good matchup for Glasnow to get his first cup of coffee with – simply because of how awful the aging Adam Wainwright has been this year. Although he posted a seven-inning shutout win in his last outing, he has a 4.70 ERA for the season. In his two starts vs Pittsburgh in 2016, Wainwright is 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA.
