MLB Player Props June 19th

MLB Player Props Today: Betting Gerrit Cole's First Start

It's a big day for MLB player props. We've got Gerrit Cole's return to the Yankees and a great matchup for Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero. Check out how I'm betting those two AL East stars tonight.

Here are my two MLB player props for June 19th:

June 19th Total base Prop: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110)

Red Sox vs Blue Jays Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:07 pm ET

Vladdy got off to a slow start to his 2024. But, since May 1st the Blue Jays first baseman is hitting .325 with 13 multi-hit games in his last 40 contests. In his last four starts, Guerrero has five hits.

Now Vladdy faces his Dominican countryman in Brayan Bello. The Red Sox starter has allowed 23 hits in his last three starts and rocks a bad 1.40 WHIP on the season. Guerrero also rocks Bello, with seven hits (four for extra-bases) in 14 career at-bats.

Just because I expect a multi-hit game from Vlad, doesn't mean the Jays are a lock to win, though. Toronto is only 12-8 in games where Guerrero Jr. has multiple hits this season. They're even just 3-2 in games where Vladdy has three or more knocks.

June 19th Strikeout Prop: Gerrit Cole Under 5.5 Ks (-104)

Yankees vs Orioles Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:05 pm ET

I broke down why I think Gerrit Cole’s return will make the Yankees the World Series favorites, but that doesn’t mean I think the starter will come out firing first start.

Cole hasn’t pitched more than 4.2 innings in a rehab start yet this season, so I expect the Yanks will be cautious with him — maybe just five or at most six innings today.

As well, he faces an Orioles offense that’s one of the best in baseball. They’re top-three in runs scored and league average in squad strikeout rate, which won’t make for an easy day for Cole Ks. As well, Baltimore batters have had success against the Yankees starter, hitting a collective .258 with a .737 OPS. Those stats may not seem impressive, but against an ace like Cole, that's a good line. Watch out for Cedric Mullins, in particular, who has a career .320 average against Cole.

With a short leash and a tough opponent, I lean under in Cole’s first outing.
