MLB Player Props June 17th

MLB Player Props Today: Back Skenes' Strikeouts

I'm kicking this week off with a pair of MLB player props. I've got one long-shot homer prop, but the pick I'm most confident on is a Paul Skenes strikeout bet. The Pirates rookie phenom is my lock to go over 7.5 strikeouts today against the Reds.

Here are my two MLB player props for June 17th:

June 17th Strikeout Prop: Paul Skenes Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-150)

Reds vs Pirates Matchup Preview - Game Time: 6:40 pm ET

Unsurprisingly, Paul Skenes is absolutely nasty. The rookie starter has a 2.43 ERA and 3-0 record in his first six MLB outings. He's surpassed 7.5 strikeouts in four of his six starts (and his last three). Last time out, Skenes pitched 6.1 shutout innings against the Cardinals, striking out eight.

Skenes has a great matchup to keep this strikeout train going, too. The rookie righty faces a Reds lineup that owns the third-highest team strikeout rate in baseball against right-handed pitchers (26.4%).

The last three right-handed starters to face the Reds  (Taner Bibee, Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea) averaged 7.6 strikeouts each. Skenes is as good of a strikeout artist as any of them, too.

June 17th Home Run Prop: Kyle Schwarber Homer (+220)

Phillies vs Padres Matchup Preview - Game Time: 10:11 pm ET

Randy Vasquez has been alright at the big-league level, but his big problem has been the long ball. The Padres starter has given up eight homers in his eight MLB outings this year, including five in his last four games. Just once all season has Vasquez not given up a homer.

That's exactly what Kyle Schwarber wants to hear. The Phillies slugger has 14 dingers in 69 games this season, and has heated up lately. Schwarber has seven hits, three for extra-bases, and a homer in his last five games.

Schwarber also mashes against the Padres during his career. The big bopper has a .945 career OPS in 35 games against San Diego, hitting 12 homers and driving in 22 runs. That OPS is the fifth-highest among opposing teams Schwarber has seen at least 10 times.
