Starting Pitchers

Max Fried (4-2) will look to earn his fifth straight win when he takes the mound for the Braves. Fried gave up just four hits and one earned run over seven innings in his last outing on May 7 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The southpaw has a 2.68 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP through six appearances and 37 innings this season.

Yu Darvish (3-1) will counter for the Padres in his seventh start this season. The right-hander picked up a win in his last start, allowing five hits and two earned runs over seven innings against the Miami Marlins on May 6. Darvish has a 4.05 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in 33.1 innings of work.

Arcia’s Walk-Off Helps Atlanta Beat Boston

The Braves picked up a 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday to earn a split in their two-game set. Travis Demeritte hit a two-run homer and Matt Olson stroked an RBI double to tie the game in the third inning before Orlando Arcia hit a two-run walk-off blast to earn the victory for Atlanta. Kenley Jansen, who pitched the ninth, earned the win.

While the Braves have hit 39 home runs this season – fifth-most in the majors – their offense really hasn’t been much to write home about. Atlanta is averaging just 4.09 runs per game, tied for 16th overall, though that number has bumped up to six over the team’s last three outings.

Padres Coming Off Series Loss To Cubs

The Padres dropped two of three games to the Chicago Cubs, losing 7-5 in the final meeting on Wednesday. Alfonso Rivas and Frank Schwindel each had two RBIs to lead the Cubs while Eric Hosmer and Luke Voit had three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Padres. Luis Garcia, who allowed two runs in the eighth inning, was saddled with the loss.

San Diego, which sits a game back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the NL West, has been led by the dynamic duo of Hosmer and Manny Machado. Machado has seven home runs and 22 RBIs while his .383 batting average leads the majors. Hosmer isn’t far behind with 21 RBIs and a .367 average – second only to Machado.

Padres vs Braves Pick & Insights

Padres: Keys To Victory

Darvish hasn’t had the best start to the season but the veteran pitcher was solid in his last outing and will look to carry that momentum into Friday’s contest. Machado and Hosmer have been unstoppable this season and will likely need to carry the Padres offense against a stingy hurler in Fried.

Braves: Keys To Victory

Fried has been excellent with a stingy 0.84 WHIP and four quality starts through six appearances. The left-hander will need to be solid against a Padres team that has the potential to erupt offensively.
