The Chicago Cubs had to juggle their starting rotation for tonight’s matchup with the San Francisco Giants after placing starter Yu Darvish on the DL. The Cubbies will turn to Tyler Chatwood, who was scheduled to start tomorrow, to shut down the Giants. Chatwood has taken three losses at Wrigley Field this season and owns a 4.81 ERA over 24.1 innings of work. Despite his recent performances at home, the Cubs opened as -195 favorites to get the victory tonight vs the Giants.
Chatwood is coming off an ugly home loss vs the Indians last week when he allowed four earned runs and six walks in 2.2 innings. The Cubs are 3-6 SU in his nine starts this season and are 1-5 SU and ATS in their last six games overall. But if bettors are willing to overlook this, they should be aware that Chicago is 13-3 SU in the last 16 home games in this matchup and Chatwood has performed fairly well vs San Francisco with a 2.84 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 16 starts.
As for the Giants, Scoring has been a bit of an issue all season (rank 23rd in MLB) but when they light up the scoreboard, they can be tough to beat as they’re 23-4 SU in 27 games when they score four runs or more. San Francisco counters with Ty Blach on the mound as it looks to capture the series from the Cubbies but he was terrible in his last start vs the Rockies, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in 4.1 innings of work. That doesn’t inspire confidence to wager on the Giants tonight especially when you consider they’re 2-9 SU in their last 11 games on the road.
