Ryu’s return could be the boost the Dodgers need

Making his first start since May 2 for the Dodgers is Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-0, 2.12 ERA). The South Korea native lasted just 1.1 innings in his last appearance against the Arizona Diamondbacks before he had to leave with a groin injury and has been on the DL ever since. Prior to his injury, Ryu had a remarkable start to the season, including not allowing a run over his first two outings at Dodger Stadium, holding a line of 13 innings pitched, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out 16 batters. In 2017 the 31-year-old allowed more than three earned runs in just three of his 10 trips to the mound at home.

Ryu’s last full start prior to being injured came against the Giants on April 27. The lefty hurled 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out seven in a 6-4 losing effort. Over his career, the Dodgers are 6-7 SU while he sports a respectable 3.36 ERA in 13 starts vs the Giants. However, Los Angeles has dropped his last three appearances vs San Fran.

Giants look for a fourth straight win behind Holland

Toeing the rubber for the Giants is Derek Holland (6-8, 3.97 ERA). San Francisco has been rolling behind the lefty recently, posting a 9-3 SU record in his starts since May 30, including 5-2 SU on the road over that span. The 31-year-old has been decent in away starts in 2018, allowing three or fewer earned runs in 11 of his 13 road outings, sporting a 3.80 ERA. According to our pitcher money won table, Holland has been fairly profitable for bettors this season, earning a profit of $462 based on $100 bets on each of his starts in 2018.

The Ohio native hasn’t found much success in his three starts against the Dodgers this season. The Giants are 1-2 SU over the three outings and Holland has an ugly 6.08 ERA. He has made a total of four appearances vs Los Angeles in his career and has a 6.38 ERA over those trips to the mound with his clubs going 1-3 SU. Additionally, he has lost both his starts at Dodger Stadium, where his ERA is 4.50.
