Who Holds the Pitching Edge?

Veteran Johnny Cueto makes his eighth start of the season for San Francisco after missing all of May and June on the DL. This is his third start since returning to the Giants roster and the first two were not vintage Cueto. In 10 innings vs the Cubs and Cardinals, he surrendered eight earned runs on 16 hits and four home runs. This will be Cueto’s second career start vs the A’s, with the only other coming in 2010 when he was with Cincinnati, a 3-0 Reds win.

Southpaw Sean Manaea (9-6, 3.42) counters for the Athletics, nine games back of the Astros in the AL West. Manaea is coming off a six-inning, five-hit performance in a win over San Francisco a week ago and was last tagged with a loss on May 30 vs Tampa. His 0.99 WHIP is fifth best in the American League and 3rd best in the AL West behind Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole.

Oakland Flexing Their Muscle

Despite playing in a perceived hitter-unfriendly park, the A’s have clubbed 127 home runs. Khris Davis with 21, Matt Olsen with 19, and Jed Lowrie with 16 are the team leaders. 14 different players have homered for the green and gold in 2018.

Davis is slashing .316/.344/.509 in July with 18 hits and six doubles. Stephen Piscotty has continued his hot hitting from June and has five home runs and 13 RBIs in 59 July at-bats. Lowrie, who started the season on fire has slowed down in July, hitting just .190 in his last 14 games.

Totals Bettors Might Consider The UNDER

This will be the sixth consecutive game between these teams. The UNDER has hit in three of the first five. OVER hit in one game by half a run and the fifth game was a PUSH. The OddsShark Super Computer is predicting an Oakland moneyline win with the total going UNDER.
