Dodgers On Cruise Control When Kershaw Starts

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in MLB at 48-25 SU in 73 games and will look to rebound with Clayton Kershaw on the mound after dropping the opener vs the San Francisco Giants last night.

Standout Stats

  • Clayton Kershaw gets the start for the Dodgers and although he hasn’t been as dominant as in years past, it’s hard to overlook how Los Angeles does when he’s on the mound. The Dodgers are 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS in his seven home starts. He owns a 3.09 ERA in those outings and when he faced the Giants on the road, he held them to two earned runs off six hits.
  • The Giants turn to Shaun Anderson for this matchup and he’s been solid in the first six starts of his career. He sports a 3.46 ERA from his two road appearances and the Giants are 4-2 SU in his six starts. In his last outing, he threw six innings and only allowed four hits and two earned runs in a 4-2 win over the Padres.
  • The Giants have been one of the worst teams vs left-handed pitching this season as they rank last in MLB in batting average, 28th in home runs and seventh in total strikeouts. They have not fared well vs Kershaw in his career either as he owns a 1.72 ERA and the Giants are only hitting .199 against him in 45 career starts.
  • The Dodgers offense has cooled off a bit after a torrid start. Over the last 30 days, they rank 18th in home runs, 17th in RBIs and eighth in batting average. The reason why that’s significant is they ranked in the top five in those categories after the first month of the season.
  • Dodgers games going UNDER has been one of the hottest bets in MLB lately as the UNDER has hit in six of their last eight games and in 12 of their last 15 overall. The UNDER has also hit in four of the last five games in this matchup.

My Best Bet for Giants vs Dodgers

Dodgers -1.5

I’ve gone on record that there are only a few pitchers that I’ll blindly take the -1.5 runline with and at the top of the list is Clayton Kershaw. The former MVP is still the most dominant lefty in the game and the Giants for the majority of the season have shown they can’t hit southpaws. The Dodgers offense isn’t destroying baseballs like earlier in the season but I fully expect the bats to come to life as they have in his previous seven home starts this season.
