Giants vs Mets Odds & Analysis
Sportsbook Odds
For just the third time this season, the Mets are underdogs as oddsmakers opened this one with the Giants as small favorites. That number appears to be shrinking ever so slightly. The total opened at 7, but consensus is now 6.5. If you feel the total is a bit low, it should be noted that these clubs are tied for tops in the majors with a team ERA of 2.36.

Starting Pitchers
Carlos Rodon will make his third start as a member of the Giants. He has been electric so far this season, going 1-0 and allowing just two earned runs. He has also struck out 21 batters, tied for fourth most in the majors. This will be Rodon’s first career start against the Mets after he signed with San Francisco in the offseason following seven years with the White Sox.
And what a pitching matchup this will be as the Mets counter with Chris Bassitt, who has also been lights-out early in the season. He’s 2-0 and has an ERA of 0.75, tops in the National League. He is 1-1 with an earned run average of under 2.00 in three career appearances against the Giants.
Pitching Is Key To Giants’ Success
San Francisco’s secret isn’t a secret at all. The Giants will go as far as their pitching will take them. They have allowed a league-low 28 runs and have given up two runs or less in seven of their 11 games. They also do a good job of keeping the ball in the park, giving up just three home runs, tied for the fewest in baseball.
Offensively, they are being led by first baseman Brandon Belt and outfielder Joc Pederson. But this team has more of a next-man-up mentality and needs the entire lineup to be rolling for them to be successful.
Mets Believe They Are The Complete Package
The New York Mets have begun this season on a tear and are doing it with great pitching and a booming offense. They’ve scored 59 runs, tied for second most in the majors, and have allowed just 30, which is also second, behind only their opponent today. Their +29 run differential is tops in baseball.
Francisco Lindor is off to a blazing start following a disappointing first season in New York last year. Meanwhile, Pete Alonso is doing Pete Alonso things – he has 14 RBIs already, which is tied for second in the majors.
Giants vs Mets Pick & Insights
Giants: Keys To Victory
Timely hitting. Neither team gives up many runs, so they will likely be at a premium. The Giants need to be opportunists and come up with the big hit at the right moment. If they can do that, then you should be confident taking the road favorites when making your Giants vs Mets pick.
Mets: Keys To Victory
Wear down Rodon. The Mets are one of the most patient teams in baseball, having drawn 50 walks already this season. If they can get on base and then use their speed to keep the Giants starter off balance, then a fourth consecutive win may be in the cards.
