Total Tends to go Over When Mariners Visit US Cellular

The White Sox survived a slugfest last night with the Mariners and will call upon Chris Sale (15-6, 3.15 ERA) in Game 2 of their series with Seattle in the South Side of Chicago tonight.

SHARK BITES
  • The Mariners are 6-22 in their last 28 games on the road against the White Sox.
  • The White Sox are 3-8 in their last 11 games after a win.
  • The Mariners are 8-1 and 7-2 against the runline in their last 9 games after losing as a favorite.

Chris Sale got his first win since July 2 in his last start in which he tossed eight innings of three-hit no-run baseball against the Athletics. The lanky-lefty has seen his play drop off significantly since the first half of the season but still has a good shot to win the AL Cy Young if he continues to pitch like he did in his last start. Sale is 8-2 at US Cellular Field this season but has a pretty ugly 4.01 ERA.

The Mariners will counter with Felix Hernandez tonight and will be more confident in him than they may have been earlier in the season. King Felix has been solid in the month of August, going 3-0 with an ERA of 2.73 in four starts. The Venezuelan did not fare well in his only start against the White Sox this year, however. He faced them in July in his first game back from a lengthy DL stint and was knocked around for 10 hits and five earned runs.

The last three times these teams have met in Chicago the total has gone OVER. Seattle’s offense has been snapping lately so if you can find a low total, that may be the bet to lean towards tonight.
