Athletics Have Been Near Unbeatable At Home Lately

The Oakland Athletics continue to surge up the standings and will look to win their fifth game in a row in the series finale vs the Seattle Mariners tonight. The A’s have been monsters at home lately by winning 11 of their last 12 at Alameda County Coliseum and 16 of their last 18 overall. To face the M’s, they’ll send out lefty Brett Anderson, who pitched a gem in his last outing at home in a 1-0 victory vs the Tigers. The Athletics opened as -125 faves to continue their launch up the standings.

SHARK BITES
  • The Mariners are 8-3 SU in 11 road games in 2018 with Mike Leake as the starter.
  • The Athletics are 16-2 SU in their last 18 games at home.
  • The UNDER has hit in 6 of the last 7 games in this matchup.

Mariners Hope Leake Can Bail Them Out

Seattle was just starting to get rolling prior to this series as the Mariners took four straight games from the Astros and were within striking distance of the division lead and a wild-card spot. But two straight one-run losses to the A’s have put them 4.5 games back of Houston for the division and 3.5 games back of Oakland for the wild card so this game tonight has more stakes than bettors may realize.

That’s why Seattle will lean heavily on Mike Leake tonight in Oakland as he owns a 3.90 ERA in 11 road starts and the Mariners are 8-3 SU and 7-4 ATS in those games. Leake hasn’t faced the A’s since May 22 but he held them to six hits and two runs in a 3-2 victory and owns a career 3.13 ERA in five starts vs Oakland. Bettors need to know that Leake is the second-most profitable pitcher in baseball at +1072 over 24 starts this season.

As for the A’s, they’ll lean on Brett Anderson and while he twirled a shutout vs the Tigers in his last home start, his previous appearance was the exact opposite. Anderson got rocked by Houston for 10 hits and seven earned runs in only three innings and was given the hook. The good news for Anderson is Seattle is below average vs left-handed pitching this season, ranking 20th in homers, 19th in OPS and 18th in RBIs.

Athletics are Dominant on Home Field

Since the all-star break, a case can be made that the Athletics may be the best team in baseball outside of the Red Sox. Oakland ranks third in OPS since the break, third in home runs and second in doubles and has gone 17-6 in 23 games. And for one of the worst ball fields in MLB, they have been dominant by winning 11 of their last 12 at home and 16 of their last 18 overall in the Bay.

Slugger Khris “Krush” Davis is making his case for AL MVP as he’s knocked 34 homers (3rd) and 93 RBIs (2nd) and if it wasn’t for the Red Sox’ J.D. Martinez having a Babe Ruth type of season, Davis would be heavier in the discussion for this prestigious award.

UNDER Bettors Cashing in When These Two Teams Clash

The total opened at 9 in this contest and the UNDER could be the profitable angle. The UNDER has hit in six of the last seven games in this matchup with an average combined score of 5.5 runs per game. Although Oakland has been very successful at home, the A’s haven’t been clobbering teams as evidenced by the UNDER hitting in six of their last seven in the Bay with an average combined score of 5.5 runs per game, so it could be another low-scoring affair on the West Coast.
