Yu Darvish and the Rangers’ sluggers got it done last night in their series opener against the Mariners and will now look to earn Texas’ fourth straight win in Game 2 in a matchup with lefty James Paxton (4-5, 3.63 ERA).
The Rangers will call on their ringer Cole Hamels (14-4, 2.67 ERA) tonight to hopefully give their relievers some rest. Hamels has gone at least six innings deep in six straight starts and is coming off an eight-inning shutdown of the Indians in which he allowed no runs and just two hits. He’s done the majority of his work on the road this season, however, as he has a 3.62 ERA in Arlington.
In two starts against the Mariners this season, Hamels is 2-0 and has given up only three combined runs in 14 total innings.
Paxton was knocked around a little in his first start since coming off a short DL stint but had been excellent in the four-game stretch leading up to his injury. The lefty has seen this Rangers’ lineup once before this season when he went 6.1 strong innings against them allowing six hits and no runs.
