Jurickson Profar #23 of the Oakland Athletics fields the ball and throws to second base to get the out of J.P. Crawford #3 of the Seattle Mariners in the top of the eighth inning at Ring Central Coliseum on June 15, 2019 in Oakland, California.

Athletics Struggling to Produce at the Coliseum

The Seattle Mariners offense has been stuck in the mud for quite a while, and M’s fans are going to have to get used to that for the time being after the team traded slugger Edwin Encarnacion to the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Mariners vs Athletics Game Center

Standout Stats

  • Sportsbooks opened the Mariners as +136 road underdogs with a total of 9.5 for today’s matchup with the Oakland Athletics.
  • Mike Leake will get the nod for the Mariners. Leake (5-6, 4.26 ERA) ended a two-start skid with back-to-back victories before settling for a no-decision on Tuesday when he permitted three runs and six hits in seven innings against Minnesota.
  • Leake is 2-3 with a 4.55 ERA in 10 career starts against the Athletics and 1-1 with a 4.05 mark in two outings this season.
  • Tanner Anderson will counter for the A’s. Anderson (0-1, 3.18) made his debut with Oakland on Monday and suffered the loss to Tampa Bay after surrendering two runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings.
  • The 26-year-old has made 10 starts and one relief appearance for Triple-A Las Vegas this year, going 4-4 with a 6.26 ERA.
  • Backing the Mariners on the road when Leake starts has been a fruitless endeavor. Seattle is 0-6 SU in its last six road games with Leake on the bump.
  • Can the A’s turn around their struggles at home? The Athletics are 1-6 SU in their previous seven home contests.

My best bet for Mariners-Athletics

UNDER 9.5 runs

The Mariners offense will have a much different look without the sweet-swinging Encarnacion around, and I’m viewing them as fade material for the rest of the season as a result. With the M’s likely going to have some issues offensively and the Athletics struggling to manufacture runs at home, I can foresee this game going UNDER the 9.5-run total.

The Mariners are 1-4 SU in their last five against the Athletics. The OVER is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between the Mariners and Athletics in Oakland. The OVER is 6-2 in the Athletics' last eight home games.home
