Sportsbook Odds

The Mets opened as the home favorite at -175 on the moneyline with the visiting Rangers getting +130. The total was set at eight runs with the OVER 6-3 in the last nine meetings between the two clubs. New York is 13-4 in its last 17 home contests – a trend that favors the hosts in our Rangers vs Mets prediction.

Starting Pitchers

Chris Bassitt (6-5) takes the mound for the Mets in his 16th start of the season. The right-hander picked up a win in his last outing against the Miami Marlins on June 25 after allowing six hits and three earned runs over seven innings. Bassitt owns a 4.01 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 89.2 innings this season.

The Rangers will counter with Glenn Otto (4-3), who will look to rebound from a rough start last time out. Otto lasted just two innings when he faced the Washington Nationals on June 26 after surrendering six hits, three walks and six earned runs in the loss. Otto has a 5.31 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP through 42.1 innings.

Rangers Fall To Royals In Low-Scoring Contest

The Rangers fell 2-1 to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday to close out a three-game set. Leody Taveras knocked in the lone run of the contest for the Rangers with a solo shot in the fifth as Texas managed just five hits in the ballgame. Dane Dunning was solid in his start as he scattered six hits and two earned runs over six innings but ultimately took the loss, falling to 1-6 this season.

Adolis Garcia has been one of the bright spots for the Rangers this season, leading the team with 49 RBI – 14 more than the next-closest batter – to go with 15 home runs. The right fielder enters Friday’s matchup on an 11-game hit streak, recording three homers and eight RBI over that span.

Mets Offense Continues To Struggle

The Mets suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of the Houston Astros after falling 2-0 on Wednesday. The contest was scoreless until the top of the ninth when Jason Castro hit a two-run homer to give the Astros the only runs of the ballgame. Starter Taijuan Walker held the Astros to just four hits through 7.1 innings, while reliever Drew Smith took the loss. New York managed just two hits in the game off the bats of Brandon Nimmo and Ender Inciarte.

New York’s offense has taken a nosedive over the last week, averaging just 2.57 runs per game over the last seven contests. However, with the Mets ranking fourth in the majors in runs per game this season (4.82), this recent funk is likely no more than just a blip on the radar.

Rangers vs Mets Pick & Insights

Rangers: Keys To Victory

The Rangers will be hoping that the Mets’ offensive woes continue, especially given how inconsistent Otto has been this season. The right-hander has shown signs of promise though: prior to his last start, Otto went four straight games without allowing more than two earned runs. If he can find his rhythm, there’s a chance that New York’s bats stay quiet again.

Mets: Keys To Victory

The bottom line for the Mets is that the bats have to wake up. Pete Alonso, who leads the club with 23 home runs and 69 RBI, has been doing his job but Francisco Lindor has cooled down of late with just one home run and four RBI over his last eight games – and all that production came against the Miami Marlins on June 24. Lindor will need to start knocking in some runs to help the Mets get back on track.
