    Starting Pitchers

    Marco Gonzales (1-1) will take the mound for Seattle in his third outing of the season. The lefty went seven innings against the Houston Astros on April 15, scattering four hits and giving up just one earned run to earn the win. Gonzales went 10-6 over 25 starts last season with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.

    Texas will counter with Taylor Hearn (0-1), who had a rough go in his last appearance.  The southpaw was rocked for six hits and three earned runs over just 3.2 innings of work on April 16 in a loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Hearn had a record of 6-6 last season through 42 appearances, posting a 4.70 ERA and a 2.09 WHIP.

    Rangers Offense Continues To Struggle

    The struggles continued for the Rangers on Wednesday as they dropped the second game of the series 4-2 to the Mariners. Texas’ only offense came in the ninth inning as Marcus Semien scored on an error and Adolis Garcia knocked in another run with a sacrifice fly. Dane Dunning threw four innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs in the loss.

    Offense has been a major issue of late for the Rangers, who are averaging just 2.25 runs per game over their last four contests. Texas would’ve expected a lot more from Semien, one of their big offseason acquisitions. The infielder is batting just .174 with four RBIs and no home runs after hitting 45 homers and driving in 102 runs with the Toronto Blue Jays last year.

    Pitching Continues To Shine For Seattle

    It wasn’t a classic performance from the Mariners on Wednesday but they only needed four runs to get the job done against the Rangers. Ty France had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense while starter Logan Gilbert pitched a gem, giving up six hits and no earned runs over 6.2 innings of work.

    Seattle has received some excellent pitching this season with a team ERA of just 3.03 – the sixth-best mark in the majors. The Mariners have given up just two runs per game over their last six outings while going 5-1 over that stretch.
