Francisco Lindor provided the only offense in Game 1 of the ALCS with his game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately for the Jays, it was the only offense the Indians would need. Both pitchers cruised through the first six innings but with Corey Kluber now used up, things could get sketchy in the Indians’ rotation.
Marco Estrada got hung out to dry by the Blue Jays’ offense last night. He pitched eight innings of two-run baseball but got no run support. For Toronto, it feels like they score 10 or zero so the flood gates could open up tonight when they go up against Josh Tomlin (13-9, 4.40 ERA).
At one point this season, Josh Tomlin was one of the most profitable pitchers in the majors so he does have the capability of stealing a game if his stuff is on. He got roughed up big time in August but settled in and has not given up more than two runs in a game since the beginning of September. Tomlin faced the Jays twice this season and has given up seven earned runs in just 10.1 innings pitched.
Toronto will counter Tomlin with J.A. Happ, the Jays’ first 20-game Sportsbook since Roy Halladay. Happ had an incredible regular season that saw him parlay his 20 wins with a 3.18 ERA. Toronto will be the favorite in Game 2 but consider this. Cleveland went an astounding 32-20 against lefty pitching this year and Happ has not been very sharp on the road.
8.5 is a high-line for the total but both team’s bats could be coming alive today.
