Lynn Aims to Continue Impressive Play with His New Club

The Yankees must be pleased with their non-waiver trade deadline acquisition in Lance Lynn (8-8, 4.46 ERA). The Indiana native has surrendered just one earned run over 16.2 innings since joining the Pinstripes at the end of July. The righty has also racked up 22 strikeouts over his three outings with the Yankees. Granted, his three starts have come against the lowly White Sox, Orioles and Rangers. That being said, Texas and Baltimore have shown signs of life recently, both ranking in the top 10 in MLB for runs scored over the last 30 days.

Lynn looks for better results against the Blue Jays than he had earlier this season. Toronto tagged the 31-year-old for six earned runs on seven hits over five innings in a 7-5 loss on April 30. Although it’s a small sample size, Lynn’s clubs are 0-2 SU when he makes the start against Canada’s lone team and he has a horrendous 7.20 ERA in those outings. The Jays’ Russell Martin is 8-for-20 lifetime vs Lynn, including two home runs and four RBIs.

Stroman has been Strong since coming off DL

Making a third straight start against an AL East squad is Blue Jays hurler Marcus Stroman (4-8, 5.03 ERA). The New York native has given up just one earned run over his last two starts, both at the Rogers Centre, including a tremendous outing against MLB’s best team, the Boston Red Sox. In that trip to the mound vs the BoSox, Stroman didn’t allow an earned run over seven innings, but the bullpen let him down as Toronto lost the game 10-7. Since coming off the DL on June 23, the righty has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his 10 starts.

The numbers haven’t been pretty for the 27-year-old in his two starts against New York this season. The Jays are 1-1 SU in the two games, and Stroman sports a startling 8.71 ERA, but he has held the Bronx Bombers to a .200 batting average. Overall, the Jays are 9-6 SU in Stroman’s 15 career outings vs the Yanks and he holds a 3.87 ERA in those contests. However, at Yankee Stadium, Toronto is just 3-5 SU and his ERA is elevated to 5.84 ERA in eight trips to the mound there.
