Losing nine of the first 10 games was not an ideal way to start 2017 for the Toronto Blue Jays and the journey back to .500 has been an interesting one, to say the least. Their win last night brought them back within one game of level pegging for the sixth time this month and another W this afternoon would give them the series against the Rangers as well as their first .500 record since they were 0-0.
Marcus Stroman (7-3, 3.15 ERA), who’s pitched four consecutive quality starts, will give the Jays an excellent shot at leveling their record today. The fourth-year pro was nearly untouchable in his only other start against the Rangers, holding them to just four hits and no runs over seven innings of work in his rookie season.
Stro will square off with lefty Martin Perez (3-6, 4.72) in the close-out contest and should give Toronto the edge on the starting bump. The Jays have, however, not performed well against lefty starters as they’ve managed to hit just .234 against them while earning a 5-11 straight-up record when facing a southpaw.
Additionally, the Rangers have been great as underdogs of late, going 8-2 straight up and 9-1 on the runline in their last 10 when they’ve closed as moneyline dogs.
