The Dodgers will send rookie Julio Urias to the mound in search of the series sweep of the NL East-leading Nationals, who will give the ball to Joe, the healthier of the two Ross brothers.
Urias (0-2, 4.50 ERA) was called up this season as the number one prospect in the Dodgers' organization, but has failed to live up to the hype so far and has been on a significant pitch limit. The rookie lefty hasn’t tossed more than 86 pitches through his five starts and has failed to pitch past the sixth inning. Julio was good his last time out, pitching five innings of shutout ball in which he racked up eight K’s.
Joe Ross (6-4, 3.13 ERA) was penciled in as the Nationals’ fifth starter this year and many thought he would be sent down to Triple-A at the first sign of trouble. The young righty, however, has pitched too well to be demoted and is giving the Nats a chance to win every game he starts.
Ross is 3-0 in his last five starts, which have all resulted in Washington wins, and will look to get revenge on a Dodgers team that beat up on him for five runs in Ross’s last and only start vs Los Angeles.
