I went 2-0 in my MLB expert picks last week — not a big deal. So let's keep this week going with another perfect day.
I'm going in two different directions with my picks today, betting on the worst team in baseball and one of the best.
Find out where my picks are going in my MLB expert picks for May 28th:
MLB Expert Picks: May 28th, 2024
Pick 1: White Sox (+184) vs Blue Jays
Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:41 pm ET
Do I think the Blue Jays are probably going to win tonight? Yes.
But, do I think this White Sox line is far too long to pass up? Big yes.
For starters, Toronto’s Kevin Gausman has been real hit-or-miss this season. He’s got three games on the year where he’s allowed at least six runs compared to just four quality starts.
Gausman’s also been surprisingly pedestrian against current Chicago hitters, allowing a .348 average and .981 OPS in 69 at-bats. I think past success against Gausman is really important, as his two-pitch mix is one that players can be prepared for, if they know what they’re doing.
A guy like Tommy Pham in particular rakes against Gausman, getting eight hits in 19 career at-bats (1.082 OPS). Pham is -240 to get a hit today.
Pick 2: Braves -1.5 (-118) vs Nationals
Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:21 pm ET
It shouldn’t be too surprising that the Atlanta Braves absolutely daddy the Washington Nationals. In the last four seasons, Atlanta is 42-20 against Washington. The Braves haven’t put up a losing season series record against the Nats since 2017.
A lot of that success comes from Max Fried absolutely dominating Washington. Fried holds current Nats hitters to just a .159 average and .386 OPS in 69 at-bats. It won’t help Washington’s cause that Fried is coming into this matchup hot, too.
Fried pitched nine innings, allowing just one earned run last time out. He’s allowed one or fewer runs in four of his last six outings.
The Braves may have lost yesterday's series-opening game to the Nats, but this is an Atlanta team that's also 3-1 coming off a loss in their last four attempts.
