Yankees at Boston Red Sox

Tonight in the biggest rivalry in baseball the Red Sox host the Yankees and each team is on fire coming off a sweep and each have won four in a row.

New York Yankees (19-8) at Boston Red Sox (15-14)

Sportsbook has the Red Sox as the slight odds favorite posted at -115 with the Yankees odds at +105 with a run total of 9.

The Red Sox recently swept the L.A. Angels and the Yankees recently swept the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox are now above .500 for the first time since beating the Yankees on Sportsbook day. New York is in second place in the AL East 1.5 games back of Tampa Bay and Boston is in fourth place 6.5 games back.

This season the Red Sox are 9-8 at home and the Yankees are 9-6 on the road.

In their last games the Red Sox beat the L.A. Angels 11-6 last night and the Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-5 on Wednesday night.

Taking the mound Boston in this game is Josh Beckett (1-0 6.31 ERA), who was solid in his last outing giving up only one earned run in six innings in a no-decision. On the hill for New York is the hot Phil Hughes (3-0 1.44 ERA), who was great in his last start giving up no earned runs in seven innings of work and getting the win.

Both starters have struggled against tonight’s opponents in their last two starts, as Hughes is 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA and against Boston and Beckett has given up 13 runs and seven homers against New York.

Dating back to last season Boston is 15-4 in Beckett’s last 19 home starts.

Boston’s offense scored 36 runs in the four game sweep of the Angles, but their pitching is still struggling giving up the third most runs in the AL.

The Yankees should have Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada back for this series after each missed time with injuries.

New York has had great pitching and hitting giving up the second fewest runs and scoring the second most runs in the American League.

In tomorrow’s game C.C. Sabathia (4-1 2.74 ERA) is slated to start for New York and Clay Buchholz  (3-2 2.97 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Red Sox. This game will be aired on ESPN. In the last game of the series A.J. Burnett (4-0 1.99 ERA) is slated to start for the Yankees and Jon Lester (2-2 3.93) is slated to take the mound for the Red Sox.

In another big series this weekend the AL East first place Tampa Bay Rays head to the Bay Area to take on the AL West first place Oakland A’s in a three-game series.
