NASCAR Odds and Picks: Harvick Sits Atop Oddsboard at Indianapolis

Following the weekend doubleheader at the Tricky Triangle, the NASCAR Cup Series moves on to conquering the square track that is Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400. The current points leader, Kevin Harvick, who is coming off a victory last weekend at Pocono, holds the shortest odds for Sunday’s race at +400.

Why is Harvick Favored to Win at Indianapolis?

I feel like I repeat myself every time I write about Kevin Harvick and how consistent he has been this season and why he is worthy of being the pre-race favorite week in and week out. Of the 15 races this season, Harvick has 12 top-10 finishes, including eight top-five finishes and three wins.

That consistency carries over to Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well. He has six straight top-10 finishes at this track, including three top-five finishes, and he was the most recent Sportsbook last season. Over his career, the 44-year-old has finished inside the top 10 in 68.4 percent of his 19 starts at this track, has two wins and has led multiple laps in 10 of those runnings.

Betting Picks: Kevin Harvick +400, Joey Logano +700 and Brad Keselowski +800

I’m backing three Fords this week – the manufacturer has won eight of the 15 races this season and the last two at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. My first pick is Kevin Harvick for the reasons I laid out above. He’s consistently in contention each week and he’s almost an auto-bet moving forward.

Joey Logano picked up wins in two of the first four weeks of the season, but hasn’t returned to victory lane since. He has four top-five finishes over the last six runnings at this track, including two second-place finishes, one of them in last year’s race. Since switching to Ford in 2013, Logano has led multiple laps in five of seven starts at Indianapolis.

Brad Keselowski has been strong at this track throughout his career, leading multiple laps in seven of 10 runnings. He grabbed the checkered flag in 2018 and was the runner-up in 2017. As consistent as Harvick has been this season with 12 top-10 finishes, Keselowski has the second-most with 10, including five top-five finishes and two wins.
