Kyle Busch Sits atop the Oddsboard to win the GEICO 500

Odds to win the Geico 500

Following a week off, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is back in action as they put the pedal to the metal at Talladega Superspeedway for the GEICO 500. When the Cup series was last in action, it was Martin Truex Jr. driving to victory lane at Richmond Raceway and he has odds of +800 to repeat, but it is Kyle Busch at +275 who is favored to win at Talladega.

Bovada has Busch at +275 followed by Kevin Harvick at +650, Joey Logano at +700, Brad Keselowski at +750, Martin Truex Jr. at +800, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney at +1200, Chase Elliott at +1400, Kyle Larson at +2000 and Jimmie Johnson at +2200 to round out the top 10 drivers on the oddsboard.

Standout Stats

  • Ford has absolutely been dominant at Talladega recently, winning 10 of the last 13 races there, including the last seven in a row.
  • The pole sitter has only won once in the last 23 races here, but the winner has qualified in the top 10 in 12 of the last 18.
  • Stay away from Kyle Busch this weekend. Although he’s the points leader and has a season-high three wins this year, Talladega hasn’t been a track of success for the Nevada native. Busch won the spring race there in 2008 and hasn’t returned to victory lane since and he has finished outside of the top 10 in seven of the last nine runnings at the superspeedway.
  • Joey Logano has been very competitive at the superspeedway recently, picking up three checkered flags over the last seven races, and has five top-five finishes over that span. Additionally, he has led 20 or more laps in five of the last 10 runnings at Talladega.
  • Brad Keselowski has been a hit-or-miss driver when the Cup series heads to Talladega as he has won five of his 20 professional races there and has led laps in each of the last six runnings at the 2.66-mile track. However, he has finished 15th or worse in seven of the last 12 races at the superspeedway as well.
  • Kevin Harvick may have some value this week. I’ve been staying away from him this year as he hasn’t been the dominant driver that he was last year, but he has still managed to collect two stage wins and has four top-five finishes. Harvick led a career-high 46 laps at Talladega last September and qualified on the pole in the April race. However, he has finished outside of the top 15 in five of the last seven runnings at the superspeedway and hasn’t driven to victory lane there since 2010.

My Best Bet for the GEICO 500

Joey Logano +700

The Connecticut native has been awfully competitive this season, landing in the top 10 in six of the nine races thus far, including one trip to victory lane among five top-five finishes. Fords have been dominant at Talladega and Logano almost always finds himself leading the pack at some point during races at the superspeedway.
