Odds to win the Bojangles’ Southern 500: Harvick has top Odds for Checkered Flag

Odds to win the Bojangles' Southern 500

The playoffs are just two races away and drivers’ tensions are high as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series invades Darlington Raceway for the Bojangles’ Southern 500. Only nine drivers have punched their tickets into the playoffs and “The Lady in Black” will surely tempt drivers to put it all on the line to be the 10th driver to lock in their spot. Current 2018 wins leader Kevin Harvick has the best odds to win this weekend at +300.

Bovada has Harvick at +300, followed by Kyle Busch at +350, Martin Truex Jr. at +400, Kyle Larson at +800, Denny Hamlin at +850, Brad Keselowski at +1500, Erik Jones at +1500, and Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch and Ryan Blaney at +2000 to round out the top 10.

Harvick has been the most dominant driver at Darlington recently

Once again it is Kevin Harvick who has the best odds to drive to victory lane this weekend and he has good reason to be the favorite. The California native has finished in the top five in four of the last five races at Darlington, winning once, and has started in the top three in each of the last four races, including three poles. Additionally, the 42-year-old has led double-digit laps in each of the last four races at Darlington, including leading the most laps in 2014, when he won, and 2016, when he finished second.

Toyota has been the car to beat at “The Lady in Black” in recent memory, having won four of the last five races, with Chevrolet being the only other manufacturer to go to victory lane. And who drove that Chevy to victory lane? Well, that would be Mr. Harvick in 2014. However, Harvick may be up against the wall in this year’s race as you have to go back to 2006 to find the last time a Ford, Harvick’s car this season, picked up the checkered flag at Darlington when Greg Biffle won back to back in 2005 and 2006.

Denny Hamlin providing the best value for Bettors

Last year’s winner at Darlington, Denny Hamlin, has odds of +850 and may provide the best value. The Florida native has been spectacular at taming “The Lady in Black” in his career and he is one of the drivers yet to punch a ticket into the playoffs. Of Hamlin’s 12 lifetime starts at Darlington, he has finished inside the top three in six of those races, winning twice, has finished inside the top 10 in all but two of those races and has led 50 or more laps in five runnings at Darlington.

Additionally, the 37-year-old is driving a Toyota and we have explained their success in recent years. Despite not getting a win yet this season, Hamlin has been competitive, picking up two stage wins and finding himself finishing in the top five a total of six times through the first 24 races and inside the top 10 in half of the races this season. At +850, can Hamlin be the first repeat winner at Darlington since 2005-06?
