40-Point Fourth Quarter Helps Celtics Take Game 1

A huge fourth quarter helped the Celtics earn a 120-108 win on Thursday to take an early lead over the Warriors in the NBA Finals.

Boston outscored Golden State 40-16 in the final frame thanks to some accurate shooting from long range as the Celtics nailed nine of 12 shots from beyond the arc in the quarter to overcome a 12-point deficit.

Al Horford led Boston with 26 points while Jaylen Brown (24 points) and Derrick White (21 points) also had 20-plus.

Horford came up huge in Game 1, shooting 9-for-12 from the field and 6-for-8 from three-point range. Jayson Tatum had a rough shooting night, hitting just three of 17 shots from the field, but he contributed 13 assists and was still a +16 on the court.

Robert Williams (knee) is questionable for Game 2.

Warriors Let Game 1 Slip Away

Things were looking rosy in Game 1 for the Warriors with a 92-80 lead through three quarters, but the Celtics rained down a seemingly unstoppable barrage of three-pointers in the fourth to snatch the game away.

Steph Curry led all players with 34 points while Andrew Wiggins also had 20 in the loss.

It was a quiet night for Golden State’s secondary scorers as Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole had just 15 and nine points, respectively.

That duo has been a huge part of the Warriors’ success in the postseason, combining for nearly 40 points per game on average. The team’s fate in the Finals will depend largely on how much Thompson, Poole and Wiggins can provide offensively.

Andre Iguodala (neck), Otto Porter Jr. (foot) and Gary Payton II (elbow) are all questionable.

Celtics vs Warriors Pick & Insights

Celtics: Keys to Cover

Game 1 wasn’t necessarily a winning formula for the Celtics, who trailed for almost the entire contest, but they’ll take it as a bit of a freebie.

Moving forward, Boston will want to get a better start in Game 2 as it’s highly unlikely they’ll be able to mount another miraculous comeback. Tatum will need to be a bigger factor offensively, too.

Warriors: Keys to Cover

The Warriors will need to find a way to mentally regroup and bounce back from not only their first home loss of the postseason but also a huge fourth-quarter collapse.

If there’s a positive for Golden State, it’s that they dominated for much of the game. If they bring that same level of focus for four quarters, they should take Game 2.
