Raptors, Celtics Bringing the Defense in Game 7

Raptors vs Celtics Betting Odds Sept 11 2020

The Toronto Raptors needed double overtime to do it, but they’ve forced a seventh and deciding game in their Eastern Conference second-round series with the Boston Celtics. The Raptors pulled out a 125-122 victory Wednesday night to stay alive – but the Celtics enter the finale as modest favorites in a game that should feature plenty of airtight defense on both sides.

Opening Odds Analysis

Boston opened the Game 7 odds as 2-point favorites, and bettors can find that line either at -2 or -2.5 depending on where they shop. The total has taken a nosedive, from an opening of 207 all the way down to 203.5.

Boston News & Notes

The Celtics can hardly hang their heads despite squandering their first of two elimination opportunities. Boston is still outscoring the Raptors by 32 points in the series, and has only lost one game by more than three points. The Celtics defense has been mostly outstanding, limiting Toronto to 41 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three-point territory.

If the Celtics want to strengthen their chances of advancing to their third conference final in four years, they’ll need more from point guard Kemba Walker, who was held to just five points on 2-of-11 shooting in 52 minutes Wednesday. Walker had averaged 20 points over the first five games, and should be a more significant contributor in Game 7; consider the OVER on his point prop.

Toronto News & Notes

That the Raptors have managed to even get to a seventh game given how poorly they’ve shot is a testament to how well they’ve performed at the defensive end. But they’ll need to be better on offense – particularly from deep, where Fred VanVleet, Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam have combined to shoot an abysmal 27.3 percent on an average of 22 attempts per game.

The Raptors’ fate might very well come down to how Lowry performs in another clutch spot. He poured in 33 points in the first elimination game, his second 30-point performance in the last four games. With Siakam struggling with his shot like at no other point in his NBA career, look to Lowry as Toronto’s best shot at converting the OVER on his point prop Friday night.

Betting Pick: UNDER 203 (-110)

Not even a 7-point drop from Game 6 to Game 7 is enough to sway us from taking the UNDER. This game could see both teams finish below 100 points.
