Hornets Go Into Play-In Tournament On Three-Game Win Streak
Charlotte picked up a 124-108 win over the Washington Wizards in its last game of the regular season. Terry Rozier dropped 25 points to lead the Hornets while LaMelo Ball fell just short of a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
The Hornets go into the play-in tournament in pretty good form, going 11-5 over their last 16 games to close out the season. Charlotte will now have to go through Atlanta as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers in order to qualify for the playoffs. The Hornets and Hawks split the season series at two games apiece, with Charlotte winning two of the last three meetings.
Gordon Hayward (foot) is out indefinitely.
Hawks Had One Of Conference’s Best Home Records
Atlanta defeated the Houston Rockets 130-114 on Sunday to retain its No. 9 seed heading into the play-in tournament. Trae Young had a double-double with 28 points and 11 assists to lead the Hawks, while Jalen Green scored 41 to top Houston.
The Hawks will be happy to have home-court advantage in their first play-in game as they’ve been excellent at State Farm Arena this season, boasting a record of 27-14. In fact, only two teams in the Eastern Conference posted more home wins this season: the Miami Heat (29-12) and Boston Celtics (28-13).
Lou Williams (back) and John Collins (finger, foot) are ruled out of Wednesday’s game.
Hornets vs Hawks Pick & Insights
Hornets: Keys To Cover
Young, who is averaging 28.4 points per game for the Hawks this season, comes into the matchup as the biggest X factor by far. However, the Hornets will hang their hat on the fact that they held the star point guard to a season-low nine points in their meeting on March 16. If Charlotte can contain Young again, they could come through with the upset.
Hawks: Keys To Cover
The Hawks ended their season on a hot run, winning seven of their last nine outings while scoring a whopping 123 points per game in the process. While Young was contained in his last game against Charlotte, he averaged 24.7 points in the other three meetings. If he can hit that mark, Atlanta should be fine.
