Nuggets favored vs Warriors in NBA

Denver rides an 8-3 ATS streak against Golden State into its first-round NBA playoffs betting matchup.

In the early NBA betting most books were listing Denver as an eight-point favorite for Game 1 over Golden State and the Nuggets were -525 at 5Dimes to win the series.

The Nuggets (57-25 SU, 49-32 ATS) turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises in the league this season. Denver stumbled through the early part of this campaign, and sat at 8-9 in early December. [ Matchup stats and odds ]

But the Nuggets slowly but surely put things together, and by the end of the season they were one of the hottest teams in the league. With help from a 15-game winning streak Denver finished the season by winning 23 of its last 26 games, coming in three games behind first-place Oklahoma City in the Northwest Division.

Denver took a hit, though, two weeks ago when F Danilo Gallinari (16 points, five rebounds per game) went down and out for the season with a ripped knee. To their credit, the Nuggets have gone 5-1 without him.

Golden State (47-35 SU, 42-39 ATS), meanwhile, got to 29-17 through January, stumbled through a 3-10 stretch, but won 12 of its last 18 games to secure the six seed in the West. The Warriors are playing in the post-season for the first time in five seasons and they have won here just twice since 2003.

Denver took the season series from Golden State three games to one. The Nuggets won the first meeting 107-101 in overtime, and the second meeting 102-91, while the Warriors took the third meeting 106-105, getting saved by the clock on a Denver 3-pointer just past the buzzer.

The Nuggets then took the most recent meeting 116-105 back in January.

Three of the four games these teams played this season went OVER on the totals, although one of those games needed overtime to do so.

These two teams combined to go 93-69 on the OVER/UNDERS this season.

As of Thursday morning on the NBA futures market Bovada was offering 6/1 on Denver winning the Western Conference, with Golden State getting 40/1. And the Nuggets were getting 25/1 to win their first-ever NBA championship, while the Warriors were lined at 100/1 to win their first title since the great Rick Barry led them to the crown back in 1975.
