Can the Golden State Warriors Reach 74 Wins?

With the addition of Kevin Durant, the rich got richer in the NBA during the offseason. But will the Golden State Warriors, coming off a record-setting season, become one of the greatest dynasties the league has ever seen? It’s a scary thought for the other 29 teams, and it's very possible.

Online sportsbook BetOnline is offering an array of props on the Warriors’ performance with Durant in the fold. Let’s examine them further in-depth.

Will the Warriors set the regular season record for wins?

Reaching 73 wins was a massive feat for the Dubs in the 2015-16 campaign, but a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals has completely erased the luster off that record. The book has tabbed the Dubs with a +400 shot of getting 74 wins, with the NO coming in at -600.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr is not new around here. Whether it was fatigue, sky-high expectations or a combination of the two, the Warriors were simply not the same team down the stretch in the postseason. I highly doubt Kerr will play his big four of Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green enough in meaningless regular season games to reach that benchmark again. After all, it’s titles that really count at the end of the day.

OVER/UNDER regular season wins

The book has set the OVER/UNDER at 67.5 here, and it’s a fair number. It’s going to take some time for Durant to mesh with his talented supporting cast, which means it would be unfair to expect the Dubs to be operating at full efficiency out of the gate.

In the first season of Miami’s “big three” experiment of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Heat won 58 games and experienced some major growing pains. While Golden State’s four-headed monster is unquestionably better across the board, I’m not sure if they’ll be stringing together wins as quickly as many Warriors fans would like. The UNDER looks like the better play in this scenario.

There's an alternative win total of 81.5, which is ridiculous considering the UNDER has -25000 juice and the YES option is priced at +5000. Unless you're interested in risking $100 to win 40 cents to back the UNDER, move along.

Will the Warriors win the NBA championship in 2017 and 2018?

You’re going to need some major cojones to wager on this one. The Dubs’ odds of going back to back are currently +325, but the chances of them falling short are -400. Remember prior to the 2016 playoffs when everyone and their dog was writing off the rest of the field and prematurely declaring the Warriors the champs? Ask Cleveland how that storyline turned out.

I’m not claiming Golden State can’t win two in a row, I’m just saying it won’t be a walk in the park due to the abundance of talent on other heavyweight teams like the Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers. Considering the stark contrast in juice, this prop looks like a stay-away to me.
