After a poor showing in Game 2 of the Western Conference final against the Houston Rockets, the Golden State Warriors looked like their usual dominant selves in a 126-85 Game 3 blowout in front of a raucous crowd at Oracle Arena. The Dubs aim to grab a stranglehold on the series in Game 4, which gets underway in California on Tuesday. With the UNDER paying out in two of the first three games, is another low-scoring affair in store? Dating back to the second round, the Warriors have gone UNDER in five of their last six contests.
Sportsbook opened the Warriors as 8.5-point home favorites with a total of 224.5.
Stephen Curry averaged 17 points and was a combined 2-for-13 from three-point range in the first two games of the series but exploded in Game 3 to the tune of a game-high 35 points on 13-of-23 shooting. The Davidson product went 3-for-11 from the field in the first half but connected on all seven of his three-point attempts in the third quarter, which effectively put the game out of reach for Houston. Veteran swingman Andre Iguodala, who’s been plagued by a bruised knee, was doubtful to play tonight as of this writing.
The Game 3 setback was the biggest postseason loss in Rockets franchise history, so it goes without saying Houston will need to quickly fix things in a big way in order to keep the series competitive. Houston shot 39.5 percent from the floor, including an ugly 11-for-34 from beyond the arc. The Rockets also committed 20 turnovers. James Harden scored a team-high 20 points but attempted just 16 field goals after averaging 24 shots in the first two games. Chris Paul is 5-for-20 from three-point land in the series, while Eric Gordon recorded only 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting in Game 3.
How impressive are the Warriors at home? Golden State is riding a 16-game postseason winning streak in Oakland, the longest playoff run in NBA history. The Dubs haven’t dropped a game at Oracle since signing Kevin Durant in the summer of 2016, going 9-0 SU in California in the 2017 playoffs and 7-0 this year.
