How Will Cavaliers' Historic Run End?

Are you taking the Cavaliers seriously yet? After being looked at as the third-best team in basketball for most of the season, they’ve become just the third team in the last 25 years to win the first 10 games of the playoffs.

The two teams to accomplish the feat before them had drastically different results. The 2012 San Antonio Spurs lost four straight after starting the playoffs 10-0, getting bounced by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. Prior to that, it was the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers, led by Shaq and Kobe. They swept the first three rounds of the playoffs, and lost just one game in the Finals to the 76ers. (In 2001 the first round was a best-of-five series.)

With Game 3 going down on Saturday night in Toronto, the Cavaliers can tie the 2001 Lakers’ mark for most consecutive wins to open the playoffs. If they go on to sweep the Raptors, they’ll be the first team to sweep the first three rounds since round one became a best-of-seven series.

Another playoff record they could potentially break is 12 straight playoff wins by the 1999 Spurs who went on the streak after losing the second game in their first-round matchup.

With Cleveland becoming the hottest team in the NBA, online sportsbook Bovada has put a few props together on how the Cavs might finish things off. Given the way the first two games have gone, a sweep over the Raptors would shock no one. For if they sweep the Raps, YES is at -170 and NO is at +130. It’s worth noting that Toronto won two of three from the Cavaliers during the regular season, so they might be able to steal one of the upcoming games in Toronto.

Also available to wager on — Will the Cavaliers lose at least one game in the 2016 playoffs. With either the Warriors or Thunder on deck, one or more losses seems likely, and the price on this bet reflects that. YES is at -20000, but if you like the Cavs to run the table, you can get them at +3000. The Cavs went 0-2 vs Golden State this season, and 2-0 against OKC.
