Clippers Thriving Without Blake Griffin

The battle of Los Angeles has lost a bit of its shine in recent years, what with the Lakers in full on rebuild mode, but dedicated Lakers backers will look for their second ATS win against the Clippers in as many games this season, while the Clips will look to continue their fine play without star Blake Griffin.

Shark Bites
  • UNDER has gone 4-0 in their last four meetings between the Lakers and Clippers.
  • The Clippers are 15-6 SU in their last 21 games against their division.
  • The Lakers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games after an ATS loss.

The two Staples Center tenants met for the first time on Christmas Day this season with the Clippers winning 94-84 but failing to cover the number as 12.5-point favorites. The loss marked the Lakers’ eighth-straight loss SU in head-to-head meetings with the Clippers and they've gone just 3-5 ATS in those contests. They have covered the last two meetings, however, losing 105-100 but covering as lofty 17-point dogs in the final meeting last season.

The recent drama surrounding star forward Blake Griffin added some unwanted attention to the Clippers’ season. Griffin, who was already on the shelf due to injury, will be sidelined a further four-to-six weeks following an altercation with a member of the Clippers’ equipment staff at a restaurant in Toronto.

The Clippers have played some of their best basketball without Griffin, however, as they’ve gone 13-3 SU and 12-4 ATS without him in the lineup. For the sake of comparison, in 30 games with Griffin, the Clippers have gone 17-13 SU and 10-18-2 ATS.

The Clippers are playing some great basketball of late and the Lakers certainly have not. The Purple and Gold are mired in an eight-game losing skid (3-5 ATS) – their longest of this dismal season – a fact that doesn’t provide a lot of confidence for dedicated Lakers backers.
