After Devastating Hayward Injury, it's Next Man Up Time for Celtics

The Boston Celtics suffered a season-Sportsbook defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers yesterday, but the bigger loss came when prized offseason acquisition Gordon Hayward sustained what’s very likely a season-ending ankle injury only five minutes into the game. Without Hayward around, the Celtics will look to pick up their first win vs the Milwaukee Bucks tonight.

Sportsbook opened the Bucks as 5.5-point road underdogs with a total of 206.5.

Shark Bites
  • The visiting team is 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games in this matchup.
  • The Bucks are 1-5 SU in their last six games as road underdogs.
  • The Celtics are 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five games with no days off between games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee’s 22-year-old superstar, has already ascended to the upper echelon of the league in the wake of a season that saw him average 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.9 blocked shots and 1.6 steals. Khris Middleton is healthy after being limited to 29 games a year ago due to a hamstring injury and reigning Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon will also be leaned on heavily in his second season.

The loss of Hayward means rookie Jayson Tatum will have a bigger role for the C’s. The first-round pick recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes against Cleveland and had an excellent second half after going scoreless in the first two quarters. Second-year forward Jaylen Brown will also be needed to pick up the slack, and the UCLA product proved he’s up to the task thanks to a team-high 25 points in the season opener.

OVER bettors will be paying close attention to tonight’s contest. The Bucks have gone above the closing total in six of their last eight trips to Beantown, and the Celtics have gone OVER in six of their past seven at home.
