Just How Low Can the Stumbling Cavaliers Go?

If the rest of the NBA wasn’t already aware something wasn’t quite right in Northeast Ohio, it’s become abundantly clear after the Cavs suffered an ugly 116-98 loss to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. After dropping 13 of their last 19 games, the wine and gold will look to buck that trend against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Sportsbook opened the Timberwolves as 4-point road favorites with a total of 221.

SHARK BITES
  • The Cavaliers are 24-4 SU in their last 28 games at home after losing their most recent home game.
  • The Timberwolves are 1-8 SU and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games on the road.
  • The total has gone UNDER in eight of the Timberwolves’ last 11 games on the road.

The Cavs have only been home underdogs three times since the start of 2017 and are 0-3 SU and ATS in that span. In the Magic loss, Cleveland possessed a 21-point second-quarter lead before falling apart in the second half en route to the loss. The Cavs have now lost by 20 or more points in four of their last 13 games. Yikes.

The Timberwolves hammered Cleveland 127-99 on January 8 to end a six-game losing streak in the series. Minny has won 10 of its last 16 overall but hasn’t played since beating New Orleans 118-107 on Saturday. All-star shooting guard Jimmy Butler has been fantastic of late, contributing 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the victory over the Pelicans.

Cleveland has continued to be an abhorrent spread wager this season. The Cavs have gone 2-13 ATS over their last 15 games and are an awful 14-37-1 ATS on the year – easily the worst in the league in that regard.
