NBA Draft Props: Who Lands On The Kings Or The Hawks?

2018 NBA Draft Props and Betting Odds May 16

The draft lottery is over and the order is now set for the 2018 NBA draft with the Phoenix Suns winning the jackpot to draft No. 1 overall for the first time in franchise history.

While my colleague Justin Hartling broke down whether Deandre Ayton or Luca Doncic should be drafted by the Suns, online sportsbook BetOnline is offering odds for how the rest of the top three will unfold along with when media darling Trae Young will be selected.

Second Overall Pick – Sacramento Kings

For the second pick, Slovenian Luka Doncic is the favorite at -200 to land in this spot and be selected by the Sacramento Kings. Doncic is perhaps the best European prospect to come along since Dirk Nowitzki and would help kick-start the rebuild in Sac-town, especially when you consider their GM Vlade Divac has made it known about his admiration for the 19-year-old.

Third Overall Pick – Atlanta Hawks

This may be where the actual draft starts as both Ayton and Doncic are expected to be off the board when the clock starts ticking for the Hawks’ selection. The odds-on favorite to be drafted by A-Town is Duke forward Marvin Bagley III at +100. Bagley was outstanding in his freshman season and coming in behind him on the odds table is Jaren Jackson Jr. at +125, Luka Doncic at +600 and any other player at +500. Due to the glut of forwards on Atlanta’s roster and the fact the Hawks have bigger needs than the frontcourt, the Any Other Player selection may be the best option especially with Gatorade National High School Player of Year Michael Porter Jr. potentially still available.

Will Trae Young be selected early in the NBA Draft?

Oddsmakers and draft analysts have Young pegged to fall in the 7-8 range, which is why BetOnline has Young’s OVER/UNDER set at 7.5. The seventh and eighth picks belong to Chicago and Cleveland respectively and I would wager my money on him going after the seventh pick due to his physical measurements (or lack thereof) and the need for versatile forwards in today’s NBA. I also think that if he isn’t selected by the seventh pick, there’s no way he gets past Cleveland at the eighth pick as the Cavaliers are desperate for more playmakers with LeBron James’ potential off-season drama looming in Ohio.
