2018 NBA Draft Props: Will Doncic Move Into The Top 2?

With the countdown dwindling until the 2018 NBA Draft, the time has arrived for bettors to take advantage of skewed odds at online sportsbooks with some interesting props available.

Online sportsbooks have released prop odds for a particular player’s draft position, if a certain player will be taken in the first round, and how many players from the NCAA champion Villanova Wildcats will end up drafted in the opening round.

Check out the list below of NBA draft props so far and be sure to check back often as more become available.

Here are my three favorite props going into the 2018 NBA Draft:

Luka Doncic to be drafted at 2 or better

Odds at +240

This is a tricky prop for bettors to feel 100 percent comfortable with if you’re reading daily NBA draft insiders. Most (if not all) analysts think Luka Doncic is the best prospect in this draft and perhaps the greatest European prospect since Dirk Nowitzki. But teams at the top of the draft order seem to be sending out mixed signals about their thoughts on Doncic and whether his game will translate to the NBA. His representation has also reportedly said he may stay in Europe depending on which team drafts him.

The Sacramento Kings have the second pick and their track record in the lottery has been underwhelming at best. This draft is very important for their long-term prospects as they won’t have a first-round pick in 2019 so they need to nail this selection and take a potential superstar. If the Kings are still on the fence, the possibility of another team trading up to select Doncic is also a strong possibility.

Jalen Brunson To Be Drafted in First Round

Odds at +115

I love the value for this prop as Jalen Brunson does two things that are required for guards in today’s NBA: shoot the three and dribble penetrate. The Villanova product is fresh off an NCAA championship run in March and has the winning pedigree that teams late in the first round love.

Brunson was the Naismith College Player of the Year in his junior season and while that doesn’t necessarily translate to success in the NBA, it does usually indicate a player’s upcoming draft status. Since the creation of this award in 1969, only one winner hasn’t been taken in the first round of the NBA draft and that was in 2017 when Frank Mason III fell to the 34th pick. Considering how well Mason played this past season, GMs won’t likely make the same mistake and let an NBA-ready player fall to the second round.

Trae Young To Be Drafted at 7 or Higher

Odds at -110

Trae Young had a freshman season that will go down in history. The point guard from Oklahoma led the NCAA in scoring and assists and was a regular highlight reel, with his ability to shoot from deep and make sweet passes to his teammates.

Young should be considered the best guard in the draft and his playing style should translate to the NBA much more than some of his contemporaries. Draft insiders have said he had great showings when working out with the Hawks (3rd pick) and the Bulls (7th pick). The Orlando Magic (6th pick) have also been reportedly high on the sharpshooter from Norman. With the way that today’s NBA game is played, his skill set will be a benefit instead of a detriment.

However, one of the knocks on Young is he was fairly turnover-prone and had a poor showing in the NCAA Tournament when the Sooners were defeated in the first round. But the reality is that Young didn’t have much talent around him in Oklahoma and head coach Lon Kruger has openly said that he let Young carry the offense and didn’t care about the freewheeling style of play. With the possibility of being high on certain teams’ draft boards, an unknown franchise could also make a run at him through a trade.
