2019 NBA Draft: Betting Props That Will Get You Paid!

NBA Draft Betting Props June 18, 2019

The dust has barely settled on the NBA Finals but teams are already envisioning what their rosters could be like for next season with the 2019 NBA Draft. Oddsmakers have wasted no time putting out a plethora of props for bettors looking to cash in on the next generation of NBA players.

Online sportsbook Bovada has started their annual unveiling of NBA draft props and you can wager on some interesting outcomes such as how many international players will be taken in the first round and whether the Duke trio of Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cameron Reddish will be drafted in the top 10.

Be sure to check back at this page from now until the draft on Thursday to see what kind of props are added. For now, let’s identify some angles where bettors can potentially make some money.

Here are my two favorite props so far:

Will Zion, RJ and Reddish Be Drafted Within the Top 7 Picks?

Yes +170

I almost looked at a similar prop for this trio to be taken in the top five picks at +450 but I feel like this is the safer play because of the uncertainty of the Pelicans and Cavaliers picking at 4 and 5. Outside of some sort of crazy development about Zion Williamson or RJ Barrett, those two are locks to be drafted in the top three picks. Every mock draft you can find on the internets has those two in those slots. So, that leaves the odd man out: Cam Reddish.

Look, I know Reddish was inconsistent in his first year at Duke but coming into the NCAA season, he was a top-three rated NBA prospect coming out of high school, behind Williamson and Barrett. Reddish has the prototypical size for a wing player at six-foot-eight and a smooth shooting stroke that completely fits today’s game.

This draft really starts after the first three picks because once you get past the big three of Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and RJ Barrett, it’s a crapshoot which prospect goes next. Drafting from 4 to 7 are the Pelicans, Cavaliers, Suns and Bulls and all of those teams could use a swingman like Reddish in their lineup. At +170, bettors need to get on this now because he has reportedly been in workouts for the Suns and Bulls in the past week and I think they’ll see the long-term potential that Reddish possesses.

How Many Virginia Cavaliers Will Be Taken In The Draft?

OVER 2.5 +150

LOCK IT IN! I don’t get too excited about draft props because usually you’re chasing improbable scenarios for lucrative odds but this one jumped off the page. De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome are already pegged to go in the first round with Hunter projected in the top 10 while Jerome will likely be taken near the end of the opening stanza. So, that leaves Kyle Guy.

Guy may not be everyone’s first choice as a starting point guard in the NBA but we know his skill set would fit with a number of teams. He has proven for nearly three seasons that he can shoot from behind the arc and played solid perimeter defense with the Virginia Cavaliers en route to the 2019 national championship.

Nearly all of the mock drafts I’ve looked at have him going in the second round. And that’s OK by us because we just need to hear his name called from the podium. At +150, this feels like a steal.

In the most dramatic NBA draft lottery in years, the New Orleans Pelicans won the right to draft Zion Williamson with the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. But who will be selected second? Oddsmakers have a few candidates in mind but have Murray State’s Ja Morant as the odds-on favorite to be taken second overall.

Online sportsbook BetOnline has Morant at -200 to go second overall in the 2019 NBA Draft followed by RJ Barrett (+150), Zion Williamson (+1000), Jarrett Culver (+1200) and De’Andre Hunter (+1400) to round out the field.

Odds Shark will add more NBA draft props as they become available so keep checking back on this page from now till the draft.

Will Morant Be Taken with the Second Pick?

If the Grizzlies are smart, they will run to the podium as soon as Williamson’s name is called for the first pick and turn in their selection to get Ja Morant. Morant’s style of play is so well-suited for the NBA that some draft experts are comparing him to Russell Westbrook due to his athleticism and ability to run the point. He would also be decent as an off-ball guard to pair with Mike Conley in Memphis. But that’s the kicker. Do the Grizzlies envision a backcourt going forward with Conley and Morant?

This is why Morant going second isn’t a lock because the Grizzlies may think that Duke’s RJ Barrett may be a better fit on the wing and add a scoring punch for a team that was the lowest-scoring in the NBA last season (103.5 points per game). I personally think that would be a dumb decision by the Grizz but GMs aren’t exactly known for making the best decisions come draft time (see Luka Doncic in 2018).

If a betting case was to be made for any other player to be taken second, it would be for Barrett. The “other” Duke freshman has gotten polarizing reviews from draft analysts due to his poor shooting in college but he was the all-time leading scorer for a freshman in the ACC this season. He also played in much tougher games throughout the year compared to Morant, who played only three games vs ranked teams all season. I don’t buy it and the odds at +150 just reinforce my feelings about Barrett going No. 2 overall.

What do you think? Do you think Ja Morant goes second overall? Or will Barrett or Culver be the choice? Have your say in the comments.
