Halfway through the 2022-23 campaign, the NBA MVP odds have Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic as the +275 favorite. The race is tight, with Nikola Jokic at +300 followed by Jayson Tatum and Giannis Antetokounmpo at +425.

NBA MVP Odds: Best Long Shots

Joel Embiid (+1000)

Let’s not forget Embiid opened the season as the co-favorite for the 2022-23 NBA MVP. The Sixers big man hasn’t lost his scoring touch from a year ago, as he’s second in the NBA with 33.5 points per game. That exceptional average hasn’t rocketed Philadelphia up the standings (the Sixers are fifth in the East), but it has kept him in the running for MVP while other candidates have soared.

Embiid has been passed on the oddsboard by players such as Jayson Tatum, Nikola Jokic and Kevin Durant. That said, he still has a very strong chance to take home the hardware, especially if his knack for scoring continues. While a foot injury has the Cameroonian’s status up in the air right now, there’s no better value pick than Embiid at +1000.

NBA MVP Odds: Best Best

Our NBA MVP odds tracker has followed the movement all season. Here’s our best bet, given the current odds.

Jayson Tatum (+425)

Somehow Tatum has been knocked out of chalk position in the 2022-23 NBA MVP odds. The 24-year-old has easily been the league’s best all-around player, yet Doncic and Jokic have now surpassed him. Clearly, the public is doubling down on Luka, especially after he dropped 60 points vs the Knicks on December 27 and hopped to the top of the PPG leaderboard. This activity is actually good for Tatum bettors, who should recognize that he’s been the true MVP this season.

The Celtics have been a menace this year, and that’s largely due to the growth of their superstar forward. Tatum is better on defense this season, averaging a career high in rebounds while also tightening up his offensive game. The Duke product is shooting .472 in 2022-23, a career-high mark.

We love Tatum at +425 value.

How To Read NBA MVP Odds

When you visit your NBA betting site of choice, you’ll notice 2022-23 NBA MVP odds laid out like this:

  • Luka Doncic +450
  • Joel Embiid +650
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo +700
  • Nikola Jokic +1200

Unlike a moneyline bet where favorites are shown by the minus sign (-) and underdogs have a plus sign (+), the player with the lowest odds with the plus sign (+) is the fave. In this scenario, Luka Doncic is favored. If you were to bet $100 on Doncic in the NBA MVP betting odds and it hits, you would win $550 – your $100 is returned and you would get $450 in profit.

If you were to bet on which player will be named MVP, you would make a futures bet.

What Is A Futures Bet?

This is a bet made on events that will happen in time. In this case, it’s MVP. To make a futures bet you would first use the handicapping info on this page to make your decision. Our Odds Calculator can give you an idea of how much you’d win based on the MVP odds and the amount of money you bet.

For example, Jokic, last year’s MVP, is at +1200, giving him a 7.69 percent implied chance of winning the award. A $100 bet on Joker would pay out $1,300.
