The reigning champion Boston Celtics are rightfully the odds-on favorites to get out of the East and compete in their third Finals in four years, but in order to create some separation from the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers, New York's front office took aim and fired off two earth-shattering deals to bring aboard Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets and just recently All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Realistically, New York could have stood pat and run it back with a healthy roster and a returning Julius Randle and still have been viewed as a credible challenger to Boston's throne. Then again, Randle has the ability to leave next summer in free agency with a player option in his contract which he'll surely opt out of. Rather than risk losing the three-time All-Star for nothing, the Knicks took his money and shipped it off to Minnesota for a talent whose been linked to them for a while in trades scenarios with Towns and his new four-year supermax extension.

Towns' stock took a dip during the Timberwolves' postseason run with his defense becoming a liability down the stretch of close games. He now reunites with his former head coach in Tom Thibodeau, and as the team's new stretch five, provides another proven weapon who can score 20 points in his sleep while also having his defensive flaws compensated for with Bridges and O.G. Anunoby at the wing.

On paper, this may be the most elite roster New York has ever assembled, but it ultimately comes down to whether or not it can hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy because expectations are much higher now. The Celtics need to be looking over their shoulder even more so considering no team has repeated as champion since 2018. The Knicks can get out of the East, no problem, and that's high praise when factoring in who their immediate competition is.

The Knicks flipped their 37-45 record in 2021-22 into a 45-37 record in 2022-23, only to then build off of that with three more victories this past season. It marked the first time since 2013 that New York won 50 or more games and just the second time since 2001.

Best Bet: UNDER 54.5 Wins, -114

Projecting the Knicks to finish with 55 wins is asking a lot, even if the team is more than capable of making that happen, especially with their new additions. It would be the most victories by the franchise since 1997, and the East is only getting deeper and tougher to predict.

No one would scoff at New York finishing with between 51 and 54 victories, but in the case of this prop, that still wouldn't be enough to connect on the OVER.

The Knicks advanced to the knockout stage of the inaugural in-season tournament by virtue of having the strongest point differential of all teams to finish in second place in the East groups. Their bid to win the first-ever NBA Cup was cut short in a blowout loss to the Bucks in the quarterfinals, though. In order to get out of East group A this year, they'll need to fight it out with Philadelphia and the Orlando Magic, while the Nets and Charlotte Hornets serve as massive underdogs.

Best Bet: Jalen Brunson For NBA Most Valuable Player, +1000

While not receiving any first-place votes, Brunson still managed to finish fifth in NBA Most Valuable Player voting last season, which was a gargantuan leap from being tied for 12th the season prior. He justified such praise by averaging 32.4 points in the playoffs for New York, while also becoming the fourth player in history and the first since Michael Jordan in the 1993 Finals to string together four-straight games of 40 or more points in the postseason.

Not that he wasn't considered a bonafide star beforehand, but Brunson's playoff outbursts put him on the map and silenced critics who may have believed he wasn't capable of being the No. 1 option on a legitimate title contender as an undersized point guard.

The likes of Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be favored for the hardware, but Brunson should be right there alongside them keeping his name alive for the Michael Jordan trophy. He's already a made man in the Bronx, but an MVP win would cement Brunson as a New York icon.
