Pacers vs Magic Playoff Betting

The Indiana Pacers did a pretty good job of playing some good ball under the radar this season. Now they get to begin the postseason with a first-round series against a team, the Orlando Magic, without its best player, Dwight Howard.

As of Friday afternoon several online sportsbooks are listing Indiana at -8.5 for Saturday's Game 1 (7 pm Eastern, ESPN), with an 'over/under' of right around 191.

WilliamHill.com is listing the Pacers at +1,800 to win the Eastern Conference and +3,300 to win the NBA championship, while Orlando is getting +5,000 to win the East and +10,000 to win the league title.

Indiana turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises in the league this year. After finishing eight games under .500 last year the Pacers played 18 games above break-even this year. And they finished well, winning 12 of their last 15 games, to claim the three seed in the East.

Orlando, meanwhile, struggled through a difficult season plagued by ever-present trade rumors surrounding Howard, causing static and havoc all around.

The Magic were still good enough to go 37-29 and earn the six seed, but now they'll go on without Howard, who will miss the rest of this season after having surgery on his back earlier this month.

Also on the injury front Indiana F Danny Granger missed the last two games of the season with a sore knee, but he's expected to play Saturday.

Orlando took three of four games from the Pacers during the regular season, but Howard played a big part in those games, averaging 24 points and 11 rebounds per.

For the season the Magic went 4-9 without their big center. Also, Orlando went 8-5 on the 'over/unders' in games Howard missed, as the Magic allowed 100 or more points in seven of those games.

Indiana went 23-10 straight-up but only 15-18 against-the-spread at home this season, 19-14 SU and 17-16 ATS on the road.

Orlando went 16-17 SU and 17-16 ATS on the road this year, 21-12 SU and 17-16 ATS at home.
