Heat Have Had a Major Edge Over 76ers in South Beach

UPDATE: According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, Joel Embiid will play tonight, likely with a mask and goggles.

After suffering their first loss in over a month, the Philadelphia 76ers will be in bounce-back mode as their first-round series with the Miami Heat shifts to South Beach all tied up at one game apiece. The Sixers have a poor track record when playing at American Airlines Arena, as Philadelphia is 0-7 SU in its past seven trips to Miami.

Sportsbook opened the 76ers as 2-point road favorites with a total of 216.5.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone OVER in 15 of the 76ers’ last 19 games as road favorites.
  • The total has gone UNDER in six of the Heat’s last seven games on Thursday.
  • The 76ers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games on the road against the Heat.

The biggest story in this series has been the absence of Joel Embiid, as the big man hasn’t participated in the first two games due to an orbital fracture. Embiid, who posted an Instagram story about his frustration about not seeing the court after Philly’s 113-103 loss in Game 2, participated in portions of practice over the last few days. Regardless, he is doubtful to play in Game 3.

Dwyane Wade turned back the clock in Game 2 to the tune of 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting while moving into 10th place on the NBA’s career postseason scoring list with 3,910 points. James Johnson contributed 18 points, seven boards, five assists and three steals in 37 minutes in Game 2, which is especially notable since the journeyman averaged under nine minutes a game in his first 19 playoff contests with Chicago, Memphis and Toronto. Johnson has gone 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the first-round series.

The 76ers haven’t been getting the job done away from home against good squads. Philadelphia is 1-7 SU and 1-6-1 ATS in its past eight road games against teams with winning records.
