Warriors Face Historically Big Spread

Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry Klay Thompson

Amazingly, the Golden State Warriors have looked like an even better team than last year’s championship-winning squad a week and a half into the 2015 NBA campaign. Sportsbooks have been forced to react as a result, and the spreads the Dubs are seeing have been the highest we’ve witnessed this early in a season in quite some time.

Online sportsbook Bovada was dealing the Warriors as 17.5-point home favorites for Friday’s clash against the lowly Denver Nuggets at the time of writing. That’s the most chalk any team has seen in the first two months of the season since November of 2010 when Orlando easily covered the -18 spread in a 128-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In fact, Friday’s number is so big it’s just the second time a team has been favored by 17.5 points or more since the 1997 season.

Chef Curry has been cooking for the Warriors

The Warriors have been solid for bettors so far, covering in four out of their first five contests. That’s due in no small part to the amazing performance by star point guard Stephen Curry, who’s scored 148 points through four games – the second most points put up by any player during that span in the last 40 years.

As a result of their blistering performance out of the gate, it wouldn’t be a much of a surprise if these huge spreads become the norm in Golden State games. If the blue and gold can manage to string together some covers, they could become a nightmare for oddsmakers as the season progresses.
