A-10 Betting Odds Preview

The VCU Rams have become a national name over the last four years, racking up six NCAA tournament wins and a trip to the Final Four under head coach Shaka Smart. The Rams will look to make another run in the NCAA Tournament this season, but first they’d like to add an Atlantic 10 title to their trophy case.

VCU (+175 to win the Atlantic 10 at 5Dimes) returns both of its top scorers in Treveon Graham and big man Juvonte Reddic, who many are projecting to take a big step forward this year to become a legitimate NBA prospect. The Rams also return defending Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year Briante Weber. Weber is one of the best on-the-ball defenders in the nation, and personifies Shaka Smart’s “havoc” defense that leaves opposing teams stymied on a night to night basis.

The Saint Louis Billikens (+250 to win the Atlantic 10 at 5Dimes) return four starters from last year’s team, which won the Atlantic 10 crown after beating VCU 62-56 in the conference tournament final. Among those returning starters is conference player of the year candidate Dwyane Evans. Evans averaged 14 points and eight rebounds per game last season, but upped those totals to 21.7 PPG and 9.3 RPG during the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

The La Salle Explorers (+350) earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament last season and made a splash while there with a Sweet 16 appearance. La Salle returns three starters that averaged over 10 points per game in Tyreek Duren (14 PPG), Tyrone Garland (13 PPG) and Jerrell Wright (11 PPG) and should be right back in the hunt this season.

C.J. Aiken’s decision to go pro hurts the chances of the St. Joseph’s Hawks (+500), but Langston Galloway (14 PPG last season) returns and leads a squad that still has plenty of depth to compete. Chaz Williams alone puts the Massachusetts Minutemen (+800) on the must-watch list; the 5’9” guard averaged 16 points and seven assists per game last season, and is one of the nation’s most exciting players.
