No. 4 Baylor Looks To Exorcise No. 3 Kansas Demons As Big Road ‘Dogs

Baylor vs Kansas Betting Odds

Big-12 titans square off as No. 4 Baylor visits No. 3 Kansas. The Jayhawks have won 10 straight at home over the Bears, 13 out of the last 14 matchups overall and are 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 meetings — but can you bet against the fourth-ranked Bears Saturday as 7.5-point underdogs?

Baylor Bears vs Kansas Jayhawks

Opening Odds Analysis

Kansas has won 10 straight home games, and 10 straight home games against Baylor, so the Jayhawks opened as 7.5-point favorites, despite their opponent being the fourth-ranked team in the nation. Baylor possesses a top-10 defense, while Kansas’ has really clamped down lately as well; combine that with the UNDER hitting in 10 of the last 13 matchups and the total opened at just 130.5 points.

Baylor News & Notes

The No. 4-ranked Bears have gotten off to a strong start to their Big-12 season, first by notching a win over Texas, then going on the road and toppling No. 22 Texas Tech 57-52 on Tuesday.

They committed a season-high 20 turnovers and leading scorer Jared Butler finished with just five points, but Baylor was able to secure the victory by out-rebounding Texas Tech 44-25 and clamping down with a stifling defense that is ninth in the nation in points allowed.

The win was Baylor’s 11th in a row and moved it to 4-0 against top-25 teams this season. It's coming into Saturday’s contest healthy, but it will need to cut down the turnovers, and Butler will need to bounce back if the Bears want to win against the third-ranked Jayhawks.

Kansas News & Notes

While they possess a high-scoring offense, the No. 3 Jayhawks won their first two conference games with suffocating defense.

First they held No. 16 West Virginia to just 32.2 percent shooting in a 60-53 win, then followed that up with a 79-53 rout of Iowa State on Wednesday where Kansas held the Cyclones to 34.5 percent shooting. The Jayhawks rank 12th in the country in holding opponents to just 37.1 percent shooting on the season and with Devon Dotson pacing an offense that scores nearly 80 points per game, it’s no surprise they are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games.

Kansas faces its biggest test of the season on Saturday, as it hosts the fourth-ranked Baylor Bears, but it’s a program it has played very well against the last few years: Kansas is 13-6-1 ATS in its last 20 matchups with Baylor.

Betting Pick: Baylor +7.5

The total has gone UNDER in 10 of the last 13 matchups between these current top-five programs. I expect this to be a close, hard-fought defensive battle, with neither team pulling away. Baylor may not win, but I think it will cover the 7.5-point spread.
