Are Notre Dame and Boston College Headed for Another Nail-Biter?

Each of the last four games between Notre Dame and Boston College have been decided by six points or less, with this season’s two-game series being split 1-1 with both teams winning by one point on the road. Which team will win the rubber match in the ACC tournament?

Boston College Eagles vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Opening Odds Analysis

Early action leaned toward Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish moved up a half-point to 9-point favorites. Bets on the UNDER have driven the total from its opener at 142.5 down to 140.5 points. The OVER is 4-1 in Boston College’s last five games and 10-5 in Notre Dame’s last 15.

Boston College News & Notes

The Eagles were ravaged by injuries down the final stretch of the regular season. Three of Boston College’s top five scorers in Nik Popovic, Jairus Hamilton and Jared Hamilton were all out of action in the team’s 80-62 blowout loss to the Florida State Seminoles last Saturday. Both of the Hamilton brothers are listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Fighting Irish while Popovic has been ruled out of the ACC tournament with a back injury.

Boston College stumbled to an 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS finish to the regular season after going 4-3 SU and 5-2 ATS across its previous seven games. To have any chance at pulling off the upset over Notre Dame, the Eagles will need big performances out of Derryck Thornton and Jay Heath, their two leading scorers.

Notre Dame News & Notes

Notre Dame snapped a two-game losing streak with a 64-56 win and cover over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday, wrapping up its regular season with a 19-12 SU and 17-14 ATS record. The Fighting Irish took a nice step forward from their disappointing 14-19 SU campaign last season, but they are on the outside looking in for an NCAA Tournament spot.

The biggest bright spot on the team this season has been the play of senior forward John Mooney, whose selection to the All-ACC First Team was announced on Monday morning. Mooney led the conference in rebounds (averaging 12.8 per game) and double-doubles in 2019-20. He will look to help Notre Dame make a splash in his final appearance in the ACC tournament.

Betting Pick: Boston College +9

The Eagles have lost four of their last five games by at least 13 points, but the one outlier was a one-point loss to Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have the edge on paper, but Boston College has played them tough over the last two seasons; 9 points are tough to pass up on.
