Colonial Athletic Conference Betting Odds

Riding the longest active winning streak of any team in the nation heading into the postseason, the George Mason Patriots will be tough to beat when the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament tips off on Friday.

The Patriots won't be playing on Friday though. As the No. 1 seed in the tournament they, along with No. 2 Old Dominion, No. 3 Hofstra, and No. 4 VCU,  have earned a bye to the quarterfinals. The rest of the Colonial Athletic Association will be in action though, with matchups including No. 8 N.C. Wilmington vs. No. 9 Georgia State, No. 5 Drexel vs. No. 12 Towson, No. 7 Delaware vs. No. 10 Northeastern, and No. 6 James Madison vs. No. 11 William & Mary.

What seems like the inevitable matchup in the final is George Mason vs. Old Dominion. At Bovada the current Colonial Athletic Association Tournament betting odds have the Patriots locked in as a +120 favorite, while the Monarchs are at +175.

The Patriots will begin the tournament on a 15-game winning streak. Even more impressive is the fact that all but four of those wins were by double digits. George Mason lost only two conference games all season long, one apiece to their toughest tournament rivals Old Dominion and Hofstra. The Pats got revenge on both later in the season with wins over  the Monarchs and the Pride during their winning streak.

George Mason was led by three reliable scorers this season, as Cam Long, Ryan Pearson, and Luke Hancock all average double-digit points. They've also got a dangerous perimeter shooter in Andre Cornelius, who finished the season on a tear from three-point range.

The Monarchs finished the regular season with six straight wins and they've won 10 of their last 11 with the lone blemish being a loss to George Mason. Old Dominion is led by senior forward Frank Hassell, who nearly averaged a double-double this season with 14.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. He'll need to be the difference-maker if the Monarchs meet up with George Mason in the final.

During the regular season when the Monarchs defeated the Patriots 69-65 as a 6-point home favorite Hassell led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds. A month later when the Patriots got revenge in a 62-45 win at home as 5-point chalk Hassell had only nine points on 3-of-11 shooting to go with 10 boards.

The dark horse contender in the tournament are the Hofstra Pride, who the Bovada oddsmakers have listed at +500. Hofstra closed out the regular season with a 6-1 record in their last seven games. Charles Jenkins, the leading scorer in the Colonial Athletic Association and fourth overall in the nation at 23.2 points per game this season, can carry the Pride on his back, but will that be enough to overcome Old Dominion and George Mason in the tournament?
