Duke looks to keep tournament hopes alive on the road vs UNC

Duke looks to avoid a three-game skid on the road at the Dean E. Smith Center.  The Blue Devils enter this contest a shade above .500 at 11-10 on the year while covering just seven out of 21 games. They take on a North Carolina team that enters with a 15-9 record covering just 10 of those games.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Winning 11 out of the last 12 games at home, North Carolina opens as a 2.5-point favorite against a Duke team it edged out on the road exactly one month ago. The total for this contest opened at 148 and has stayed deadlocked on the number since.

Duke News & Notes

It has been an up-and-down season for Coach K and the Blue Devils to say the least. The Devils enter this game losing back-to-back pivotal games at a very meaningful stretch in the season. Just a game over .500, this matchup against UNC is their biggest game of the year thus far. Despite the recent losing stretch, the Blue Devils have covered four of their last six games.

Despite Freshman workhorse Jalen Johnson opting out the entire season, Duke has offensively held its own the majority of the season. Ranking 70th in the country in total scoring, and 45th in offensive field goal percentage, it’s clear Duke’s main problem relies on the defensive end of the floor.

North Carolina News & Notes

Post-New Year, Roy Williams has seemed to turn a slight corner with his young roster. North Carolina has been extremely dominant at home this year winning nine of 10 games. On the road is where the Tar Heels have really struggled just winning three out of 10 games this season.

Still unranked, the Tar Heels have some work to do in order to receive a middle-of-the-road seed in the tournament. Deep into this season, UNC still relies on towering forwards Armando Bacot and Garrison Brooks who both come in at 6-10 weighing 240 respectively. Having those big men clogging up the middle has made it very tough for opposing teams as they first in the country in offensive rebounding.

Betting Pick: Under 148

One word. Trap! This total is too good to be true. Public bettors are salivating at this total because they are seeing a faulty box score just one month ago. Both teams combined to knock down 21 out of 40 behind the arc which just won’t happen again. Now it’s UNC’s turn to dictate a slower pace Saturday night.
